The Biggest Interior Design Trends Of 2022

20 January 2022

As 2021 has now drawn to a close, our design experts predict that these are the top trends that will dominate home interior next year.

With a focus on sustainability, the earth and disconnecting from distractions, 2022 will echo sentiments of a willingness to reconnect with nature. We will see a rise in minimal pieces and colours that are rooted in zen principles and create a soothing aura. This year is all about finding that balance between functionality, sustainability and aesthetics.

Curved shapes and asymmetrical designs.

Curves and smooth edges give a comfortable and casual vibe in a home. These organic, attractive shapes are replacing boxy edges and clear lines that were previously staples in the latest interior design trends.

Green tones

Pinterest has seen searches for green interior inspiration increase by 80% this year, as we embrace a plethora of nature-inspired green tones.

Biophilic design

After over a year of being shut inside, there has been a focus on regaining our connection to the natural world through the use of biophilic design principles, meaning there will be an emphasis on creating calming environments with natural lighting and ventilation, incorporating plants and creating a visual connection with nature.

Designated spaces for work and play in the home.

Offering an antidote to daily hustle and bustle, mindfulness has become an important tool to manage our mental and physical wellbeing. The foundation of this philosophy focuses on the present as well as what is around us, so where better to start fostering mindfulness and wellbeing than right in our own homes.

Sustainability

2022 will see a further emphasis on sustainable materials, responsible manufacturing, and the reuse and resale of furniture and homeware.
